Scientists assure, that new tests will give results literally in seconds
Scientists at Bilkent University Research Center in Turkey claim, that they developed the ultra-fast Diagnovir coronavirus test, which uses nanotechnology and gives precision in 99 percent. If a person is infected with coronavirus, then the test will show the result in just 5 – 10 seconds, in case of a negative result, the reaction will take 20 seconds. "Komsomolskaya Pravda" asked to rate, will such a test system actually find a virus in a matter of seconds.
Турецкие коллеги говорят о быстроте реакции – от 10 to 20 seconds and accuracy in 99 %, and this is an ambitious statement. maybe, this test system does not work with a specific region of the coronavirus genome, and determine the presence of proteins in the biomaterial. But it is too early to draw final conclusions, after all, a scientific article on research has not been published and it is not clear, how well the tests will be able to work in widespread use - "on populations", – говорит Николай Крючков.
Tests show, whether there are certain genes in the RNA in the body, specific to a particular virus, SARS-CoV-2, eg.
Тест-системы включают так называемые анти кодирующие последовательности нуклеотидов (building bricks RNA), exactly corresponding to those in the gene of the coronavirus SARS-COV-2.
If these sequences attach to fragments of the novel coronavirus genome in the sample (eg, smears from roto- or nasopharynx), means, The same virus is caught and the test is positive.
Nanoparticles are needed to, so that when the indicator substance is added and the RNA sequences match positively, the test itself is stained in a certain color, and it was clear - there is infection.
For, to limit the spread of the virus, tests should be fast, reliable and cheap enough.
- medical worker, to take a sample,
- sample delivery system to the laboratory under the right conditions,
- laboratory with relatively complex and expensive equipment.
When performing PCR testing, the required amount of RNA is produced from the starting material, so that you can accurately determine, is there a virus or not. It all takes time. In a good scenario, PCR testing takes 1,5-2 days.
In practice, it happened, that due to organizational inconsistency, it took up to 7 or even 10 days to wait for test results. This is problem, because for that, to limit the spread of infection, we need to know, whether a person is infected or not, much earlier, – говорит Николай Крючков.
Rapid tests for covid 19:
- borrow from 10 minutes to 1 o'clock,
- inexpensive, approximately at 3 times cheaper than PCR,
- often do not require the services of medical personnel.
IN 2019 году ученые из Южной Кореи уже использовали тест-системы с антикодирующими последовательностями и наночастицами золота для тестирования на MERS – коронавирус, causing Middle East respiratory syndrome (BVRS). The Korean version required 10 minutes.
Similar developments, but already in relation to testing for SARS-CoV-2, study at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and also at the University of Naples, however, it has not yet reached mass production.
В Медициской университетской школе Мэриленда
Тест определял наличие специфических участков гена, coding fragments of the N-antigen, and gave the result for 10 minutes. Similar studies were conducted by other scientific medical centers.. Such test systems performed well in the laboratory., but they have not yet gone into mass use.
maybe, have specificity issues, that is, they give relatively many false positives, or with sensitivity. Anyway, validation (proof of effectiveness, – прим. ed.) innovative diagnostic methods require many months of work, – считает эксперт Николай Крючков.
